Introduction to Finishing Systems & Techniques

A four-hour, hands-on class on the spray equipment professional shops actually use — you set up, spray and tear down each system yourself, with an instructor at your shoulder.

What the class covers

Our Introduction to Finishing Systems and Techniques is an entry-level class built around industrial spray equipment and the best practices of production finishing. It is for finishers, cabinet and furniture shops, refinishers and anyone choosing their first — or next — spray system.

You will set up, spray and tear down the four most popular finishing systems, applying a range of waterborne coatings. Instructors walk through the strengths and the shortcomings of each system, so you leave knowing which one fits your work and why.

The four systems you will run

HVLP (pneumatic)

A gravity gun on compressed air, applying medium-viscosity waterborne coatings.

Best for small jobs in a shop setting

HVLP (turbine)

A gravity gun on turbine air, applying medium-viscosity waterborne coatings.

Best for refinishing on-premise

Airless

An airless sprayer applying medium- to heavy-viscosity waterborne coatings.

Best for on-premise refinishing or fast shop production

Air-assisted airless (AAA)

An AAA system applying medium- to heavy-viscosity waterborne coatings.

Best for large-scale production in a shop setting

Everyone gets as much time on the gun as they want with every system. Along the way the instructors refine your technique and pass on the industry-specific tips that produce a fine finish, better yield from every gallon, and less labor per piece.

Training for your crew

Onboarding new sprayers, moving a shop from solvent to waterborne, or dialing in one system for one product line — we put together private sessions for shops, at the store or at your location. Tell us what you are working on and we will scope it.

Color matching, tinting, equipment repair and more.
